This four-day circuit runs deep into the Anti-Atlas to a scatter of palm oases and mud-brick villages rarely seen on a standard Marrakech itinerary, taking in some of Morocco's most significant prehistoric rock-art sites along the way. The route heads south-west rather than the usual south-east line toward Zagora or Merzouga, crossing the Anti-Atlas — lower, older, more eroded mountains than the High Atlas — to reach the string of oases around Tata. These palmeries, fed by ancient irrigation systems (khettaras) rather than a single river, are scattered and quiet, with a distinct architecture and rhythm of their own.
