Overview
This is the expedition version of the Chigaga trip — four days built around real distance and real remoteness rather than a quick dune night. Beyond M'Hamid, where the asphalt ends, you spend a full day crossing gravel plains and dry riverbeds by 4x4 to reach the Erg Chigaga dune sea, camping wild among nomad families and under skies with no light pollution for a hundred kilometres in any direction.
The first day covers familiar ground — the Tizi n'Tichka, Aït Ben Haddou, the Draa Valley — reaching Zagora or M'Hamid by evening. From day two, the character of the trip changes: this is where the road ends and the expedition begins, following 4x4 tracks across open desert rather than any marked route.
The crossing itself is the point as much as the destination. You pass isolated wells, the occasional nomad tent, and landscapes that shift from gravel reg to rolling dunes as Chigaga comes into view.
