The beauty of Marrakech as a base is that the best days out come to your door. Nearly every excursion here includes pickup from your riad or hotel, so you step out of the medina and into a valley, a waterfall or the desert without touching a taxi rank. Here are the escapes worth building a day around.
Mountains and valleys, an hour away
The closest great days out are in the Atlas foothills. The Ourika Valley is the easy favourite — green, cool, a river lunch — and the High Atlas day goes higher into Berber village country. Both are picked up from your accommodation and back by evening.
For Morocco's tallest cascade, the Ouzoud waterfalls is a longer but spectacular run, with resident monkeys and a boat to the base of the falls. It's a full day, so an early door pickup matters.
Desert and coast, still in a day
Want the desert without an overnight? The Agafay stone desert is forty minutes from your door — camels, big skies, a sunset — and back for dinner. Fancy sea air instead? Essaouira on the Atlantic is a breezy, blue-and-white port town, a longer drive but a complete change of pace.
All of these are door-to-door: you're collected from your riad, driven in an air-conditioned vehicle and dropped back at the end. No parking, no navigating, no hire car.

Do day trips include hotel or riad pickup?
Nearly all of them do. You're collected from your accommodation and dropped back at the end in an air-conditioned vehicle. For riads deep in the medina where cars can't reach the door, we arrange a meeting point at the nearest car access and tell you exactly where.
Which day trip is easiest from the city?
The Ourika Valley and the Agafay desert are the closest — around an hour and forty minutes respectively — so they involve the least driving and the most time at the destination. Both are ideal if you want a big day out without a long road trip.
Can I do a longer trip like Essaouira or Ouzoud in one day?
Yes, both are popular full-day trips with an early door pickup. Essaouira on the coast and the Ouzoud waterfalls are longer drives — roughly 2.5–3 hours each way — so expect a full day, but both are well worth it and you're back the same evening.
Are trips private or shared?
Most can be either. Shared minibus tours are the best value on popular routes; private tours cost more but let you set the pace, choose stops and travel as your own group with door-to-door service. Tell us which you prefer when you book.
How early do the pickups start?
It depends on the trip — closer runs like Ourika might start around 8–9am, while long days to Ouzoud, Essaouira or Aït Ben Haddou start earlier to make the most of the daylight. We confirm your exact pickup time the day before.
