Two Days in Marrakech: The Perfect Itinerary

Two days is the sweet spot for a first taste of Marrakech: one day for the city, one day to get out of it. Do the medina properly on day one, then trade the walls for a valley or the desert on day two, and you'll go home feeling you saw both sides of the place.

Day one: the medina, unhurried

With two days you can slow down. Spend the morning on the monuments — Bahia Palace, the Saadian Tombs, Ben Youssef Madrasa — and the afternoon in the souks and gardens. A medina walking tour in the morning sets you up to explore confidently on your own later.

End on Jemaa el-Fnaa at sunset. If food is your thing, a street-food tour that evening is the perfect way to eat your way across the medina without guessing which stall to trust.

Day two: get out of the city

Day two is your escape. The easiest and greenest is the Ourika Valley — an hour out, a river lunch, cool mountain air. For desert drama without an overnight, the Agafay stone desert gives you dunes-of-a-sort, camels and a big sky forty minutes away.

Want real mountains? A High Atlas day takes you into Berber villages beneath the peaks. Any of these fits neatly into a single day and gets you back for a final Marrakech dinner.

The ready-made version

Our Marrakech in 2 days itinerary sequences both days for you, with timings and a suggested day-two excursion, and the full day-trips pillar lets you swap in whichever escape appeals.

Book the day-two trip a day ahead so your slot is confirmed, and keep day one flexible — the medina is best enjoyed with a bit of wandering room. Message us and we'll tailor both days to your pace.

Frequently asked questions

Is two days enough for Marrakech?

For a first taste, yes. Two days lets you do the medina properly on day one and escape to a valley, the mountains or the Agafay desert on day two — seeing both the city and its surroundings. Three or more days lets you add the Sahara or the coast.

What's the best day-two excursion?

The Ourika Valley for green, cool scenery an hour away; Agafay for a desert feeling in half a day; or a High Atlas day for real mountains and Berber villages. All three return you to the city for a final dinner and none needs an overnight.

Can I fit the Sahara into two days?

Not comfortably — a true Sahara trip to Merzouga or Zagora needs at least two full days on its own because of the drive. With only two days total, choose Agafay for the desert feeling; save the real Sahara for a three-day-plus trip.

Should I book a guide for the city day?

A morning medina walking tour is a great use of day one: it orients you, adds the history and frees you to explore confidently on your own in the afternoon. It's optional but makes a two-day trip feel fuller.

How far ahead should I book the day trips?

A day or two ahead is usually enough to confirm your slot, and often same-day for popular runs like Ourika. Book earlier in spring and autumn high season and for private tours or specific dates.
