How many days do you need in Marrakech?
- City only
- 3–4 days
- With the desert
- 5–7 days
- A quick taste
- 2 days
- Sahara loop
- 2–3 days on its own
Quick answer
You need three to four days to see Marrakech properly — two for the medina, souks and monuments, and one or two for a day trip. Add the Sahara or the coast and you'll want five to seven days. Two days is enough for a taste of the city but not the wider region.
What each day gives you
Marrakech's old city is compact, so two days cover the headline sights: Jemaa el-Fnaa, the souks, the Bahia Palace, the Saadian Tombs and the Jardin Majorelle. A third and fourth day is where the trip becomes memorable — that's when you slow down and take a day trip to the Atlas Mountains, Ourika Valley or the coast, or an overnight in the Agafay desert.
The region, not just the city, is the reason to come. Almost every returning visitor says the day out of Marrakech was their favourite part.
If you want the Sahara
Real Saharan dunes (Merzouga or Zagora) are a long drive over the mountains and need at least two, ideally three days as a loop. If you only have a few days total, the nearer Agafay stone desert gives a desert feeling on a single overnight or even a sunset trip, 40 minutes from the city.
Related questions
Is 2 days enough for Marrakech?
For the city itself, yes — you can cover the medina, main palaces and a sunset in two days. It's not enough to reach the Sahara, but you can fit a half-day trip to Agafay or the Ourika Valley.
Is 5 days too long in Marrakech?
No — five days lets you enjoy the city unhurried and add a proper adventure like a desert loop, the coast at Essaouira, or several day trips, with time for a hammam and cooking class too.
How long do you need in Marrakech and the desert together?
Plan five to seven days: two to three for a Sahara loop to Merzouga or Zagora, and the rest for the city and nearer day trips. For just a taste of desert, a single Agafay overnight fits into a shorter trip.
