What to Do in Marrakech in Summer

It's hot — but that's half the adventure. Early mornings, cool retreats and evening magic make Marrakech in summer unforgettable.

Best sunset & night experiences

Marrakech in summer is not for everyone — daytime temperatures regularly exceed 40°C. But if you plan intelligently, it can be one of the best times to visit: prices are lower, crowds are thinner, and the evenings are extraordinary.

The strategy is simple: active mornings (before 11am), pool or spa during the afternoon heat, and evening activities from 5pm onwards. The city comes alive after sunset, and the desert is magical under a summer night sky.

What's included

Sunrise balloon flight

Launch at 6am when the air is cool and calm. One of the few activities that's actually better in summer — the light is spectacular.

Common questions

Is Marrakech too hot in July and August?

It is very hot — 38-45°C in the daytime. But if you plan around the heat (early mornings, pool afternoons, evening activities), it is perfectly manageable. Hotels and riads all have air conditioning.

Is it cheaper in summer?

Yes. Riad prices drop 30-50% in July-August, and tours have more availability. It is the best time for budget travellers.

Should I visit Essaouira instead?

Essaouira is cooler (22-28°C) thanks to Atlantic trade winds and makes an excellent summer base or day trip. Many visitors split their time between both cities.

What should I wear in summer?

Loose, light-coloured linen or cotton that covers your shoulders and knees. A wide-brimmed hat and good sunscreen are essential. Carry a water bottle everywhere.
