Marrakech is one of the most photogenic cities on earth — zellige-tiled courtyards, carved cedar doors, rose-filled gardens and warm ochre walls at every turn — and Moroccan traditional dress is made for exactly this backdrop. A dress-and-photo session lets you step into a kaftan or the more formal, two-layer takchita, and come away with a set of striking portraits taken by a photographer who knows the light and the locations.

The traditional garments are gorgeous and worth understanding. The kaftan is a long, flowing one-piece robe, often richly embroidered; the takchita is its ceremonial cousin, a two-layer ensemble cinched with an ornate belt (mdamma) and worn at weddings and celebrations. Men can wear a djellaba, the hooded robe, or a jabador. A stylist helps you choose an outfit and colours that suit you, and dresses you properly with the accessories — belt, jewellery, sometimes a headpiece — so the look is authentic rather than costume-like.

The shoot then unfolds across one or more classic Marrakech settings: a tiled riad courtyard, a rooftop with the Koutoubia or the Atlas behind, a lush garden, or an atmospheric derb. The photographer directs you through poses and uses the city's golden light and rich textures to flatter both the outfit and you, capturing a mix of portraits and candid frames. Sessions range from a quick set of shots to a fuller styled shoot.
