Half or full day

Ourika Valley Day Trip from Marrakech

The closest Atlas Mountain escape — Berber villages, cascading waterfalls and a tagine lunch by the river, all within 90 minutes of Marrakech.

Only 1.5 hours from Marrakech
Atlas Mountains scenery
Setti Fatma waterfalls
Riverside tagine lunch

The Ourika Valley is the easiest and most popular Atlas Mountain day trip from Marrakech. The valley starts just 30 km south of the city and cuts deep into the High Atlas, passing through green farmland, Berber villages and terraced slopes before ending at the Setti Fatma waterfalls.

It is close enough for a half-day visit (morning departure, back for late lunch) or a full day if you want to hike to the waterfalls and eat riverside. On weekends, Moroccan families picnic by the river — it feels local and authentic.

What's included

Berber villages

Stone and mud-brick villages cling to the valley sides. Many welcome visitors to see traditional life — bread ovens, rug weaving and mint tea hospitality.

Setti Fatma waterfalls

A 45-minute hike from the end of the road leads to the first of seven cascading waterfalls. The trail crosses the river on stepping stones — wet shoes are part of the adventure.

Riverside lunch

Restaurants built on platforms over the Ourika river serve traditional tagines, salads and fresh bread. The sound of rushing water is the soundtrack.

Argan oil cooperative

Stop at a women's cooperative to see argan oil production and buy direct. The quality is far better than the souk and the money goes to local women.
