Can I photograph people in Marrakech?
Always ask permission first. Some vendors and performers expect a small tip (5-10 MAD) for photos. Never photograph women without consent. A guide helps navigate these social norms.
When is the best light?
6:30-8am and 5-7pm (varies by season). The medina's narrow alleys create dramatic light shafts around midday that can also be stunning.
Do I need a photography guide?
Not essential, but a local guide knows the hidden spots, the best angles and which doors you are allowed to photograph. For serious photography, it is worth every dirham.
Is a drone allowed?
Drones are technically prohibited in Morocco without a permit, which is difficult to obtain. Enforcement varies but confiscation at airports is common. We do not recommend bringing one.
