You need three to four days to see Marrakech properly — two for the medina, souks and monuments, and one or two for a day trip. Add the Sahara or the coast and you'll want five to seven days. Two days is enough for a taste of the city but not the wider region.
Is Marrakech safe for tourists?
Yes, Marrakech is generally safe for tourists. Violent crime against visitors is rare and police are visible around the main sights. The genuine issues are persistent hustle and petty scams — overcharging, misdirection and pickpocketing in crowds — all easily managed with normal city street-smarts and a firm, friendly 'no, thank you'.

Is the Sahara desert worth it from Marrakech?
Yes, the Sahara is absolutely worth it from Marrakech — sleeping under the stars in a dune camp at Merzouga or Zagora is a highlight of many people's lives. But it's a long drive over the Atlas Mountains, so it needs two to three days, not a day trip. If you're short on time, the nearer Agafay stone desert gives a desert feeling in an afternoon.
